Personality: Quatre is a polite young man who presents himself rather humbly despite his privileged background. Quatre is a pacifist and he believes strongly in the ideals of nonviolence. However, he also knows that inaction solves nothing, and so goes into war with equal parts reluctance and determination. Compassionate and honest, he is a lover of nature and animals and has a particular affinity for the natural beauty of Earth. His gentility and kindness make him appear to be an easy mark--but this is a fool's mistake, because Quatre is both incredibly perceptive and incredibly stubborn. He has enough self-respect not to allow others to take advantage of him.

More than anything, Quatre's most shining trait is his courage. Quatre, of all the pilots, fights in direct contradiction of his own emotions. He gives the enemy every opportunity to surrender, expressing open sadness when he is forced to kill other soldiers, but does not hesitate to use lethal force where lethal force is required. Quatre must fight in spite of his own heart, and he does so with bravery and a fierce determination. Unlike some of the other pilots, he recognises that he is can be of more service alive than dead and so is willing to act in the interests of his own self-preservation. However, he also recognises the value of others' lives and does everything in his power to avoid putting others at risk. It is war and casualties are unavoidable, but no avoidable casualty should ever happen while he has the power to prevent it. It's a delicate balance--one made more precarious by the emotional toll it takes on him. His participation in war, to him, is a necessary evil. But it's an evil he's taking on personally, and he refuses to run from conflict or distance himself from the reality of war--no matter how painful this may be.

War is over now. For good. Peace... is real. Which means it was all worth it.

It was worth it, he reminds himself. It was all... worth it.

Though he was once very self-absorbed and selfish, he now makes a conscious effort to think of others first. Still, it was not that long ago that Quatre was a colder, more resentful individual. Quatre’s father was a major formative element of Quatre’s sense of disconnection and alienation from others. THE formative element, even. While Quatre never wanted for any material goods or needs, his father’s expectations of him were being layered atop an extreme sense of devaluation, and Quatre’s need for human relationships was progressively strangled by the increasing pressure of his own dissatisfactions and beliefs about who he was and where he came from.

Quatre hated himself intensely and he still grapples with this; he has not entirely lost his tendency to believe the worst of himself--or of others. He also struggles with anger--though he has grown a great deal in the past couple of years, he must still make a conscious effort to keep his emotions in check and keep them from developing into hatred or bitterness.

Sometimes this is easier said than done. Especially for Quatre. A naturally empathetic individual, he can be very sensitive to people around him--sometimes too sensitive. His own emotions are often hidden from him--while he feels quite strongly, his awareness of others' emotions is much stronger, and may overpower his ability to recognise how he feels. Often he feels the emotion, physically, but his brain can't quite grasp what he's experiencing, which is exhausting. This leads to a sort of personal blindness he does his best to compensate for with apology and kindness. His father's death and the emotional toll of the war were easily exploited by the ZERO system, which he built and then piloted during a psychotic break with reality. A violent one. He has since regained himself, but the awareness of what he's capable of has not left him. There will always be that uncertainty. Negative emotions--emotions he can't express or that he knows are wrong--still plague him. his privacy, and, if we're being honest, his emotional and psychological welfare.

While nominally he's had a lot of time to process what happened during the war(s), he really... hasn't. He has no real time to worry about himself--no freedom to worry about himself, either. Even if he could, he inevitably spends his time thinking about other people instead of himself. And it's not only normalised, it's expected and even somewhat required for him to tax himself that way. In his home canon, he's a political figure and the head of a massive political and economic empire that he not only MUST take responsibility for, but which he is personally driven to use to negotiate and preserve peace. He feels it is obligation and duty to do everything he can for this peace--sacrificing his private life,

Privately, he does worry that he will never entirely shake his capacity for anger or hate--or, more accurately, his capacity to act badly or dangerously because of them. He tries not to blame himself for what happened with the ZERO system, and for the most part he acknowledges that he was, for lack of a better word, not entirely himself. And he knows you cannot run away from your problems--nor does he want to. But some problems don't have solutions... all you can do is move forward, and do what you can in the future.

While Quatre does not always know what he should do with his emotions, he knows what he does NOT want to do.

He would much rather build than destroy.
Abilities: Quatre possesses an innate talent for leadership, and can quickly and effectively organise individuals or groups, making maximum use of others' skills and abilities. He is also canonically possessed of incredible stamina and endurance. As noted in the wiki, he walks for hours hours in a Middle Eastern desert without any water, drifts in outer space for days with limited oxygen, and continues to fight in his Gundam despite holding a bleeding stab wound.

He's also got an ill-defined ability that is translated as the 'Soul/Heart of Outer Space/the Stars,' sometimes referred to as his 'Space Heart.' Honestly? It's a Newtype ability in a canon tHAT DOESN'T HAVE NEWTYPES, which is never explained or expounded upon in ANY CAPACITY. Somehow, it allows him to sense the soul of outer space, and appears to grant him some degree of telepathy or psychic empathy. Think of it as an empathic sixth sense that also involves space.

In canon, he occasionally experiences (sometimes severe) chest pains in response to the emotional and physical trauma experienced by the other Gundam pilots (to whom he is connected; Wufei is notably excluded) and inexplicable awareness of moods relating to specific events. He "absorbed" a specific form of emotional and psychological burden from Heero at one point, which might or might not have just been a poorly-executed visual metaphor. This is... this is stupid, honestly. It doesn't make sense, it's never explained, I'm probably going to avoid it for the most part because it's so poorly-defined. It's reserved for EXCEPTIONALLY close CR, either way.

Carnival History: Quatre saw the carnival as an escape for his immediate inner personal turmoil, and he knew he needed some time to... work on himself. So he literally wasted an entire magic wish on... the wish to join the carnival. For fuck's sake, Quatre.

Existing Contract: He wants to learn environmental magics.
Details: Honestly, what he REALLY wants isn't within RM's capability, but she basically called him out for being unimaginative and trying to sign a contract for another year to just figure his problem out himself, so he rose to it and now he's gonna learn magic. How dare you, RM.
